Subject: My recommendation
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To whom it may concern,

I would like to give a strong recommendation for the group Galitcha. I had the pleasure of being absorbed by a performance from Galitcha at the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance in November 2001. I use the word "absorbed" because the experience was so much more than just watching a concert. Having been involved with folk music for 20+ years as a host of a radio program on WFDU-FM, I have listened to hundreds of talented musicians. Galitcha offers qualities that exemplify the best in music.

First and foremost is the style - Galitcha's music mixes a number of musical genres, but like a good stew each morsel retains a distinct flavor. Strains of Indian folk music, classical Indian music, jazz, African percussion, Latin beats, and so much more can be heard in the music of Galitcha. Each member of the group brings something exciting to the sound. Each member is highly skilled at the instrument(s) they play. The vocals will grab your attention and play with your emotions. The voices of Kuljit Sodhi and Chris MacLean mix very well.

I was enthralled with the variety of instruments Galticha used in performance. This was the first time I had the opportunity to see some of these instruments in live performance. My exposure to the harmonium, the Chinese ehru, and the incredible Indian instruments including the tabla and dolki were previously limited to field recordings on esoteric archival recordings. Witnessing these instruments weave tunes in this ensemble showed the potential they can achieve. Galitcha offered a fresh approach to traditional styles, bridging the often difficult connection between contemporary and traditional.

Let me be clear, Gatlicha's performance was an education for the audience, but it was far from a dusty classroom experience. Galitcha gave a performance that shook the senses and left the audience in such a happy state! Often cliched buzz-words like "electric", "virtuoso", "versatile" and "captivating" really do fit this group!

I hope they have an opportunity to reach new audiences. I am sure the experience will be exciting for the audience, and perhaps insipiring to other musicians. Let's hear more of Galitcha!
